Energy Resilience Lab: An innovative step towards Ukraine’s energy independence

The Energy Decarbonization Center of KPI, established within the UniCities project, continues to actively expand its network of strategic partnerships. Most recently, successful negotiations were held with the Czech company RSE, a leading manufacturer of mobile cogeneration systems based on MWM engines (Caterpillar Energy Solutions).

As a result of this collaboration, the Energy Resilience Lab has been established at the KPI Energy Innovation Hub — an innovative educational and technical platform that will open in autumn 2025 for students, young professionals, and representatives of local communities.

The laboratory will offer opportunities to gain hands-on experience in the field of autonomous and backup power systems, including work with modern cogeneration modules and the analysis of real-life cases involving the implementation of RSE technologies in critical infrastructure.

Equipped with demonstration stands based on MWM/Caterpillar technologies, the lab will provide access to advanced engineering solutions that are already being used to strengthen the energy resilience of public facilities, hospitals, and logistics hubs across Ukraine.

This initiative is a vital component of the broader transformation of higher education, professional skills development, and the promotion of sustainable recovery in Ukraine’s energy sector.

The UniCities project team firmly believes that strengthening cooperation between education and industry is essential to achieving energy independence and sustainable development in Ukraine.
