UNICITIES: The future of energy-efficient solutions for sustainable development

The UNICITIES team from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute participated in the 10th-anniversary edition of the International Conference on Smart Energy Systems (SESAAU2024, https://smartenergysystems.eu/), which was held in Aalborg on 10-11 September. The conference was organized by Aalborg University and Energy Cluster Denmark.

The UNICITIES team presented the work on developing a digital twin-based smart heating system with a condensing boiler. The proposed framework of a digital twin took advantage of the latest technologies in IT. Experience-based real-time information interchange between the physical system and the digital twin was implemented. Energy efficient operation modes of the investigated system have been proposed.

The conference had a focus on the deployment of renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies in light of the unprovoked Russian attack on Ukraine.

The conference targeted smart energy systems, sustainable energy, electrification of the heat and transport sectors, electrofuels, and energy efficiency. A forum was established for presenting and discussing scientific findings and industrial experiences related to smart energy systems based on renewable energy. This includes 4th Generation District Heating Technologies and Systems, electrification of heating and transport sectors, electro fuels, and energy efficiency.

More than 300 participants from 25 countries worldwide participated in the Conference. The keynotes were focused on Smart Energy Systems and heat pumps and energy security in Europe in light of the continuing logistical challenges and the war in Ukraine. Also, the focus was on the role of hydrogen in the green transition with insights from India, China, and Germany.
