Courses
The developed course is designed to promote the formation of knowledge and practical skills in the application of technologies for ensuring the functioning of urban systems, adaptation, and mitigation strategies as an important tool in the context of state climate policy, key concepts, theories, and methods of systemic technology-oriented activities for the prevention, adaptation, and mitigation of climate change in smart and sustainable cities by joining the modern global climate technology market.
These strategies target municipalities and urban stakeholders in different sectors, including industry, property owners, utilities, and households. The course will be project-based through an adapted multidisciplinary approach, including environmental, technological, economic, and social aspects. They are harnessing the potential of smart city technologies to address the challenges of implementing mitigation and adaptation strategies.
The target audience of the course is Master’s students of the Academician Yuriy Bugay International Scientific and Technical University.

Module 1: Sustainable Development Goals
- Historical aspects and conceptual framework of sustainable development
- UN Sustainable Development Goals: Economic component of sustainable development
- UN Sustainable Development Goals: Environmental component of sustainable development

- European dimensions of sustainable development

Module 2. Smart cities and climate policy of Ukraine in the context of european integration
- Social and Eco-innovations as a factor in achieving the goals of sustainable development and environmental safety of Ukraine
- Climate policy of Ukraine at the national and international level
- Climate policy of the European Union. The European Green Deal
- Main challenges and priority goals of the climate policy of Ukraine in the context of European integration

Module 3: Sustainable development and climate management
- Climate change in Ukraine. General principles of sustainable development of climate management of urban systems (cities)

- Mitigation of the effects of climate change
- Impact of greenhouse gases on the climate and implementation of effective emission reduction strategies
- Prospects of development of energy efficient technologies
- Green Climate Fund and tools for developing full-scale projects
Module 4. Smart cities
- Prospects and experience of applying SMART technologies in the development of municipal infrastructures in cities
- Ecology. Control of air and water pollution
- Management of the urban transport system
- Energy efficient technologies
- Renewable energy sources.
- Cybersecurity of smart city systems
- Emergencies: prevention and elimination.
Teaching methods: The course will use a variety of teaching methods to provide a well-rounded learning experience: lectures, practical classes, visual methods, case studies, etc.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
– solve complex problems and issues in the field of climate management or in the learning process that involves research and/or innovation under uncertain conditions and requirements;
– select and use management concepts, methods, and tools, including under-defined goals and international standards;
– establish values, vision, mission, goals, and criteria by which the organization determines further directions of development, develop and implement appropriate strategies and plans;
– design effective organizational management systems;
– carry out effective communications within the team, with representatives of different professional groups and in the international context;
– analyse and structure organisational problems, make effective management decisions, and ensure their implementation;
– apply technologies to ensure the functioning of urban systems, adaptation strategies, and mitigation of climate change as an important tool in the context of the formation of state climate policy, key concepts, theories, and methods of systemic technology-oriented activities.
