In the context of the global climate crisis, the world needs ambitious and smart initiatives that will progressively contribute to the development of climate-neutral cities. The UniCities project team believes that in our activities we should be inspired by successful and innovative projects that are already changing European cities for the better. One of these initiatives is the Net Zero Cities project. 

Net Zero Cities is not just a project; it’s a bold vision for a world where cities lead the charge toward climate neutrality. Through innovation, collaboration, and determination, Net Zero Cities is reshaping urban landscapes and the community at the same time.

At the heart of this transformative initiative lies a simple yet profound goal: drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving climate neutrality by 2030. But how exactly does the Net Zero Cities project achieve its goals? 

• Cutting-Edge Research: Powered by the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, Net Zero Cities leverages the latest scientific insights to drive meaningful change.
• Innovative Solutions: From pilot programs to twinning initiatives, Net Zero Cities offers cities the tools and resources to implement innovative solutions for rapid decarbonization.
• Collaborative Partnerships: With the support of 34 city networks, research organizations, and urban stakeholders from 13 countries, Net Zero Cities fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing on a global scale.
• Inclusive Approach: Net Zero Cities recognizes that achieving climate neutrality requires inclusivity and equity. By engaging communities and stakeholders, the project ensures everyone has a voice in shaping a sustainable future.

This project unites cities from different countries and backgrounds with a common goal. 40 cities participate in the Twinning Programme and more than 60 in the Pilot Cities Programme.

UniCities believes that European experience and successful practices will help to promote climate neutrality in Ukrainian cities. They can inspire more and more people to take care of their cities and the environment in general. To climate neutral cities together!
