Cities 2030

citiES2030 is one of the spin-offs of the Innovation and Technology for Development Centre at UPM (itdUPM). itdUPM was created in 2012 to foster collaborative research and learning among sustainability oriented UPM research groups, facilitating inter-structural management within UPM system.
Within the Center, the Platform Cities was created in 2018 in cooperation with the City Council of Madrid with the purpose of being a broad space for collaboration and co-design of solutions that contribute specifically to the public policy of the Madrid City Council on Climate Change. Following the EU Cities Mission’s proposal, citiES 2030 has initiated a process to transform Spanish cities that will articulate political commitment to decarbonisation and accelerate the development of roadmaps towards climate neutrality.
A multi-stakeholder approach is part of the citiES 2030 strategy to involve a wide range of actors and strengthen networks based on reciprocity, trust, and collaboration. Until now, 8 cities signed the Spanish Climate City Contract representing 18% of Spanish total population.
